Folly
There is nothing in the region quite like Nick and Scott’s Folly
If the third time’s the charm, then prepare to be won over by the third iteration from the ultra-talented Dubai-based cheffing duo Nick Alvis and Scott Price.
Folly is the third iteration of the collaboration between chef Alvis and Price, the Gordon Ramsay trained duo previously ran his restaurant Verre in Dubai Creek, before creating their own concept restaurants Table 9 and Taste Kitchen – both of which won plenty of critical acclaim for their cuisine (if not their locations)
Folly is a different story. Built over two storeys, and with two fantastic outdoor terraces over-looking the Arabian Gulf, the duo finally have a venue to match their talents.
Those talents take the form of Modern European cuisine, with a refined, ingredient-led menu that really forces the competition to up its game.
What we admire is the bravery of what appears on the menu. Often veering away from easy comfort food, the dishes often pack overlooked ingredients such as, Monk Fish Cheek, rabbit or sweetbreads, with intense flavours, and show a creativity and finesse that stands out in the region.
Interior-wise, we love the exposed brick walls, teal banquettes and traditional dark wood tables. It is classic but contemporary. But the real standout is the restaurant’s ‘Communal Table’ – a 10-person VIP table on a private terrace that overlooks the Madinat’s waterways and the sea. The ideal setting to impress people you want to impress.
