All international flights have been postponed due to this new strain of coronavirus

Saudi Arabia has closed its international borders, shutting its land, sea and air ports for one week.

It is thought the suspension of travel could be extended another week, in response to a new strain of the coronavirus.

The decision was made after the UK and other European countries responded to the emergence of this potent new strain.

According to authorities inside The Kingdom, any person who travelled from a high risk country after December 8 is required to quarantine for two weeks from their date of arrival. They must also have a COVID-19 test during the self-isolation period, and then follow-up that test with another five days later.

Anyone who has returned or transited through a high-risk country over the last three months must also undergo another test.

The authorities said that goods and commodity supply chains will not be affected.
