It will be an adaptation of novel ‘Forty Acres’

Jay-Z will be producing a film adaptation of Dwayne Alexander Smith’s powerful novel Forty Acres, for Netflix.

This will be the second time he has sat in the producer’s chair; previously he produced the all-Black western The Harder They Fall. He is also currently working with Luke Cage series creator Cheo Hodari Coker, on a film that is supposedly a cross between Get Out and The Firm (which, let’s be honest, sounds fantastic).

Smith’s novel portrays a civil riighrs attorney who has to fight for survival after becoming part of an elite Black organization, that holds a dark secret.

Jay-Z is a producer alongside Aaron Kaplan (he of Kapital Entertaiment), Nikes Kirchner and Bill Strauss.

The rapper previously worked with Kaplan on a limited series for ABC dubbed Women of the Movement. According to Netflix, the film is now just in early development.
