Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90.
The announcement was made by his family. The scottish actor was best-known for bringing super spy James Bond to the silver screen. He originated the role in Dr No, which hit screens in 1962. He went on to star in five James Bond films, including fan favourites such as Goldfinger, From Russia With Love and Diamonds are Forever.
Connery passed away in his home in the bahamas.
The actor was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1930. He became interested in acting after working backstage at a theatre, and then went on to come third place in the body-building Mr Universe competition.
He was apparently reluctant to star in the film adaptation of Ian Fleming’s Bond series of novels, but the movies have gone on to become one of the biggest film franchises of all time.
After stepping away from Bond after 1983’s Never Say Never Again, Connery worked with directors such as Steven Spielberg and Alfred Hitchcock.
He earned an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in The Untouchables. He officially retired from acting in 2003.
