It won’t happen again until September 30, 2050

October is a rare month in the world of astronomy, as it sees not one but two full moons.

October 1st saw the first full moon of the month, and the second will fall on October 31 (just in time for Halloween). That second full moon is called the Blue Moon, which is where the phrase, “once in a blue moon” comes from.

The last time the world witnessed the blue moon in the same month was June 30, 2007. The next time we’ll see two full moons in the space of the same month won’t occur until September 30, 2050.

You can actually catch most of the blue moon by simply looking out of your window on Halloween night. While you can see it with the naked eye, a regular pair of binoculars will help you see the blue moon’s hue a little bit better.

In other Moon news, NASA just confirmed there is a lot more water on the moon than previously thought. That lends itself particularly well for its Artemis program, which aims to send a manned-mission to the moon by 2024.
