We’ve all seen those hand washing memes and everyone is now religiously scrubbing their digits with soap and water for over 20 seconds. But while that’s all well and good, have you sanitised the product you use the most— your phone?
Studies suggest that your phone is actually 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat.
Apple has finally declared that you can now clean your iPhone with Disinfecting Wipes and similar products with 70% isopropyl alcohol. But how do you go about effectively cleaning your device?
Step 1: Turn off the phone and unplug all cables
You cannot clean your phone and other devices if it’s switched on or currently being charged.
Step 2: Remove all covers
While you disinfect your phone don’t forget to clean your phone covers as well.
Step 3: Clean
Use cleaning wipes to effectively clean your phone and phone covers. Don’t have wipes? It’s okay to use a combination of 60% water and 40% rubbing alcohol. Mix the ingredients together, and then dip a cloth in the solution, squeeze it so that it is damp and not wet before wiping it gently across your phone.
Here are some do’s and don’ts
- Use only a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cloths, towels, paper towels, or similar items.
- Avoid excessive wiping, which might cause damage.
- Unplug all external power sources, devices, and cables.
- Keep liquids away from the product, unless otherwise noted for specific products.
- Don’t get moisture into any openings.
- Don’t use aerosol sprays, bleaches, or abrasives.
- Don’t spray cleaners directly onto the item.
