Star pokes fun at Australian’s proclivity to the savoury spread

Last week the coronavirus claimed its first celebrity victim: Tom Hanks has currently gone into self-isolation in Australia after he and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for the coronavirus.

The pair are currently isolated at the Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland, Australia, where they were working on Baz Luhrmann’s Elvi Presley biopic.

Tom Hanks is in good spirits; however; he is poking fun of the virus online and recently demonstrated that he was combatting the illness with an Australia Staple: Vegemite.

On Sunday Hanks thanked those who were looking after him. “Thanks for the Helpers,” he tweeter. “Let’s take care of ourselves and each other”.

Attached was a photo of two pieces of toast smothered in Vegemite, along with a bite taken out of it.

This sent Australians into a melt down, claiming the actor was ‘crazy’ for having so much of the savoury spread on his toast.

Vegemite – which has a particular taste – is made from yeast extract leftover from a brewing process.

For the uninitiated, most Vegemite eaters have only a small smear of paste on buttered toast.

No wonder he has only taken a single bite out of it…
