The highly-anticipated videogame is going multi-platform

One of the year’s biggest video games – The Outer Worlds – is heading to the Nintendo Switch.

The game was already destined for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, but last night developer Obsidian Entertainment announced its new partnership with Nintendo conversion specialists Virtuos.

The news received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from Switch gamers looking forward to getting to grips with the new sci-fi adventure from the same minds behind Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity.

During the announcement, senior producer Matthew Singh said a little bit more about the game – which has been shrouded in mystery since it was originally unveiled.

The Outer Worlds, a single-player game set in the furthest reaches of the galaxy, with a focus on exploration,” says Singh.

For the general plot “the player character must find out how to revive the rest of the inhabitants of their colony spaceship,” he added.

Singh also said that players would be able to recruit two other characters to accompany them on adventures and that the game will respond to player-made decisions.

The Outer Worlds won’t be the first game to modify its gameplay based on how a player decides to play the game. However, the notion of choice and consequence is key here. For example, even your character’s repeat exposure to the same injuries could lead to “intriguing consequences” says Singh.

The team behind officially porting the game over to Switch have previously worked on Dark Souls, L.A. Noire and Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age.
