Facebook and Microsoft will help the UAE’s biggest week of fashion take place digitally

Arab Fashion Week is set to take place from October 21 – 24, supported by Microsoft. Facebook will also play a big part, broadcasting the show to its users.

Lebanese popstar Maya Diab is set to open the virtual festivities; she was named Fashion Icon of the Arab World by the show.

Arab Fashion Week is put together by the Arab Fashion Council, and will continue its program virtually. It will let viewers check out the latest and greatest designs from a number of Arab fashion houses and independent designers.

The general theme this year is, “Dream Bigger, the power to achieve more.” The show will be supported digitally by Microsoft, which will be using its cloud infrastructure to power the event.

Arab Fashion Week will showcase 30 fashion designers from across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and America. There will also be a full day dedicated to Brazilian designers.

The entire event will be shown live exclusively on Facebook platforms, and allow those watching to shop for their favourite looks via digital showroom platform JOOR. Arab Fashion Week has also teamed up with Nikon, to ensure each design

“The entire world is passing through a transitional period of stepping into the new world’s revolution which is governed by technology and artificial intelligence; we, at the Arab Fashion Council, are taking the right steps to ensure our fashion community is ready to be part of the big change” said Jacob Abrian, Founder & CEO, Arab Fashion Council.

“At a time when all sectors and industries are re-imagining their business models around the globe, the Arab fashion industry is no different, as it is set to drive a significant portion of its business in a challenging year through digital channels. The creative industry at large with its designers, creators, and the entire value chain are looking at new ways to innovate and differentiate, said Ihsan Anabtawi, COO and CMO of Microsoft UAE. “The Microsoft cloud and devices are supporting and empowering fashion designers and everyone in the industry to innovate, create, and collaborate in new ways while helping the industry meet changing customer demand in the digital age”
