Tod’s Fall/Winter 2020 – Shoes
Tod’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection has landed.
The collection – which was Tod’s creative director Walter Chiapponi’s first – represents what will become the future of the Italian label.
While the overall concept of the new collection is based around the ‘T Club’, a group that represents the ideal Tod’s wearer (a group of successful leaders and renegades), when it comes to footwear Chiapponi was remarkably respectful.
Tod’s traditional Gommino driving shoe remains front and centre, and Chiapponi did not break the mould. Instead, the shoe has been updated with several new hues that make sense given the colder months. Elsewhere, chunky soles exist on both slip-ons and boots, with a few select details such as gold buckles to draw the eye.
Trainers continue to take inspiration from the world of street and sportswear but remain dignified in their colourways and materials.
It is always interesting to see someone’s first collection for a storied brand such as Tod’s. This marks the only time we have seen Chiapponi’s take on the brand, and it has turned out to be quite respectful towards Tod’s historic house style.
