He’s the hero a pandemic world needs, and what it deserves too

Batman has been spotted in Santiago, Chile, using the cover of darkness to hand out food to the homeless.

The Dark Knight has been regularly spotted in the evenings, handing out dozens of plates of hot food to the homeless people in the South American capital on a regular basis. Chile is still knee-deep in the pandemic, with lockdown measures only just being eased.

The man – who dons Batman’s signature armour – has said he wishes not to be identified.

“Look around you, see if you can dedicate a little time, a little food, a little shelter, a word sometimes of encouragement to those who need it,” he said to Reuters, adding the disguise was meant to bring good cheer and unite.

Like many countries, lockdown restrictions have hurt much of Chile’s economy. Unemployment is up 12 per cent in the South American country, and despite some business being allowed to re-open, much of the city continues to stay behind closed doors.
