Auction house Christie’s has put together a special Dubai Edit of famous limited edition watches for the UAE market, as well as other highly collectible pieces.
The sale includes 161 lots, and is technically the most valuable online watch sale in history with a total estimate of around US$5,000,000.
One of the highlights of the auction is surely the Rolex gold day-date (ref. 18238) made for the United Emirates Armed Forces. These vintage Rolex watches were produced with specially-made signed dials for the UAE armed forces.
The pieces is an incredibly rare one, supplied to the UAE back in 1994. It has a champagne dial which features the UAE’s emblem, including a golden falcon, UAE flag and seven stars – signifying the seven emirates.
Other significant watches as chosen by some of Christie’s talented watch experts include a rare Steel Submariner from 1961, with a pointed crown guards and a gilted dial. As well as a Patek Philippe in steel and gold.
Another highlight is a Patek Philippe gold, diamond, pearl and ruby-set skeletonized keyless watch. It is only one of five ever seen publically, and is a true masterpiece from both a jewellery and watchmaking perspective.
Christie’s The Dubai Edit is letting those interested view the watches online from October 10-14, and then bid as well as see them up close in person (by appointment only) in Dubai from October 15-29.
