Argh, the ‘70s. Campbell’s soup volovants, the rise of night fever and sticking just about anything into a fondue is not all the decade can stake proud claim to – at times, the clothes could be pretty bloody brilliant.
And no – we’re not talking about psychedelic platform-boots and sequin heavy shirts worn unbuttoned to the navel – we’re talking about the stylish-staples worn on a more day-by-day basis, that have recently been reworked and updated in a nostalgic resurgence in toto by designers globally.
What was once seen as a saturnine, desaturisated colour palette is now a covetable sun-stained fade that earns its keep in style points. Bulky, tangerine tinted glass-lenses more often associated with T*rry R*chardson are once again storming the mop-topped faces of ‘far out, man’ models.
Perhaps in difficult times we all feel a mawkish pang for a little nostalgia, or perhaps we’ve just really, really missed knitted sweater-vests and bottle-green cords. Either way, we’re embracing it and hard.
