Nike has released its new NikeCourt London 2019 collection, which puts a unique take on traditional tennis clothes.
The collection includes a mix of textures, including knitted fabrics, in sweaters, cardigans and more vintage-inspired clothes in both white and black.
“We’re challenged to dimensionalize white here,” says Abby Swancutt, Global Design Director for NikeCourt. “That’s why textures are so important. We start by asking, how does the apparel actually feel to the touch, and is the athlete comfortable? Then we continue asking how that knitted texture is experienced by the eye, both on-court and from a distance.”
There are hand-crafted details on many of the pieces, including black twill and threat Nike Shooshes, as well as contrast stitching.
Only the black version of the collection will be available for retail, which lets athlete mix-and-match pieces off the court.
There are also two new shoe silhouettes in the collection; the NikeCourt Vapor x TC and the Air Zoom Vapor x Knit.
TC model was inspired by a traditional tennis shoe, while the Knit version boasts more of a sock-like fit. Both are available in hot lava colourway, adding a pop of colour to this mostly monochrome collection.
