It can be daunting to get into a new field of interest – and perhaps especially so with the vast and tribal cultures of menswear.
Many menswear tribes have their own bodies of knowledge that newcomers need to get familiar with: brands, styles, materials, stories. And sometimes, it can be a lot to digest.
Sneakerheads, as a primary example, comprise an entire subculture with its own histories and studies of sneaker provenance.
This is no clearer than with Air Jordans – which, these days, are more a cult than just a signature brand. And if, for whatever reason, you find that you need to catch up with the members of that cult, consider the Air Jordan Collection microsite your new homepage.
A few weeks ago, to celebrate the launch of the Air Jordan 32 and to commemorate the anniversary of the “banning” of the first Air Jordan 1, Jordan Brand launched a new microsite that traces the entire history of His Airness’ signature shoes.
The Air Jordan Collection microsite is an incredibly comprehensive, centralized, and (most importantly) official resource for the history, stories, and colourways of every Air Jordan since 1985.
In it, they’ve managed to catalogue all their sneakers, including a few unreleased sample colourways.
Apart from documenting the shoes’ history on-court, Jordan Brand has even gone as far as to include some of the advertising materials as part of the stories of each shoe.
It’s required reading for anyone who’s new to Air Jordans, and for fans of Michael Jordan himself.
