It’s 2020, and the world is a mess. Australia is on fire, we’re quickly running out of freshwater, and there are millions of tons of plastic in our oceans, polluting one of the world’s largest food sources.
Happy new year, everyone!
Fortunately, a few global brands are taking threats to our climate seriously. Adidas has said that more than half of the polyester used in its products this year would come from recycled material.
From Adidas, that means that millions of shoes will be made from plastic waste.

“In 2020, the share of recycled polyester in Adidas products will “exceed 50 per cent for the first time”, the company said in a statement. And by 2024, Adidas “is committed to using only recycled polyester” – across its entire range of shoes, clothing and accessories. The plastic will come from “beaches and coastal regions”.
The company said that it sold more than 11 million shoes featuring recycled materials, although that is just 20 per cent of the some 50 million shoes Adidas produces each and every year.

Adidas will launch its first-ever running shoe made entirely out of recycled plastic next year. Dubbed the ‘Futurecraft Loop’, it aims to provide best-in-class performance by utilising only recycled plastic.
