As we continue to surround ourselves with hands-free and contact-less tech, sportswear goliath Nike may have just solved a problem that has plagued shoe-wearers for decades…
Called the Go Flyease, the latest footwear innovation from Nike is not only laces-free, but involves a new ‘kick up’ and ‘kick down’ mechanism that means the wearer can take off and put on their shoes without using their hands.
Nike’s first hands-free sneaker is simple, but mind-blowingly different. Similar to the way a ski boot clicks into so skiis, the Go Flyease has unique features, including a tension band that secures the shoe in place of laces. Putting them on involves just stepping into the shoe so that it will snap into place. Taking them off is done by stepping on the heel.
The shoe was initially designed for people with disabilities, but the technology was later expanded to actually help anyone that wears shoes. So while Nike’s Go Flyease are very much about inclusion, they have the potential to be the start of a new era of sneaker innovation.
Think of them as a shoe that is as easy to wear as a Croc, but way more stylish. This is Nike after all.
The shoes go on sale February 15 for subscribers of the free membership program on Nike’s website. Broader availability is planned for later this year.
