It seems loads of men are getting confused about the do’s and don’ts of cologne.
We know this, as it seems to be one of the most-asked questions we get each month. So here’s everything you need to know about the right way to wear fragrances in 2018:
How do you put on cologne?
Some people say you need to spray it on your skin, as fragrances tend to react the moment they touch the skin and tend to change slightly.
Then there are those who say you should spray it on your clothes, as there the fragrance is most likely to interact with the air around you. Finally, there’s a third group who say you should spray it on certain areas, such as the back of the neck and the inside of your wrists.
In truth, it doesn’t really matter. Go wild.
What about spraying and then walking into the cloud, thing?
It’s a great way to waste a lot of cologne, but a poor way to apply it to your body.
How much cologne should I put on?
Scents with lower concentrations like eau de colognes can be sprayed more liberally. For more potent fragrances – such as oud – we’d say two pumps is enough. Three max. You can always more later, but you can’t take away once it’s sprayed.
We really advise erring on the side of caution on this one. You don’t want to be that guy who assaults people with smells.

Can I leave cologne in my hot car?
A cologne is a mixture of various different fragrances that come together to make one overarching scent. But, those individual notes are rather fragile and will break down in the presence of extreme heat and light.
So while there’s no real harm in letting your cologne bottle get baking hot, it will probably change the scent entirely.
So how do I choose a cologne that’s right for me?
This varies massively, depending on the type of guy you are. As a general rule, if you like a fresh-out-the-shower feel, sport fragrances with citrus and aquatic notes will suit you. If you want to make an impression, go for smokey, spicy and oriental fragrances.
But do I need to wear cologne in the first place?
Well, if you want to enter a room smelling good and with an air (no pun intended) of sophistication then wear a cologne. But if you want everyone to see you as the smelly mess you really are, then go ahead and skip it.
Who even uses their sense of smell these days, right?
