Fanboys, set your phasers to stunned. CBS has announced a new Star Trek series which will star everyone’s favourite captain, Jean-Luc Pickard.
Sir Patrick Stewart will once again play the role of his Next Generation Enterprise captain, Jean-Luc Picard. Much like the new Star Trek: Discovery, it’s going to be a CBS All Access exclusive series, meaning you’ll have to subscribe to the online service to watch it.
While there are loads of debates around which is the best Star Trek series, there is little disagreement over the fact that Stewart is one of the best and most popular actors to ever star in the series.
Speaking in a surprise appearance on Saturday at the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, Steward said that it was still very early on in development. But he did say that fans can look forward to seeing what a post-Next Generation existence means for his character.
Speaking at the panel, Stewart admitted “he may not be a captain anymore. He may be someone who has been changed by his experiences. We have no scripts as yet. We’re just talking talking talking storylines. It will be something very different, but it will come to you with the same passion.”
Stewart also shared more thoughts on the news in a formal statement, posted on social media.
“I look forward to working with our brilliant creative team as we endeavour to bring a fresh and unexpected and pertinent story to live once more.”
We won’t know any more about the show until later this year, but one thing’s for certain – Star Trek fans are in for a whole lot of fun over the next six months.
