It kicked off its campaign bid to host the Asian Games in Riyadh

Saudi Arabia wants to host the 2030 Asian Games.

Last night Saudi’s sports minister launched the official campaign to help make that a reality, and host the 21st Asian Games in Riyadh in 2030.

It was Prince Abdul Azzi bin Turki Al-Faisal – chairman of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee, who formally raised the country’s application bid. Officials will decide who gets to host the games when they meet in Muscat in Oman on December 16, 2020.

The Prince said: “Hosting the 2030 Asian Games is a great honor and an opportunity to inspire a new generation of athletes across the Asian continent and reach the largest audience in the Kingdom’s sports hosting history.

“We are excited (at the chance) to host the first-ever Asian Games (in Saudi Arabia), in light of the support of the government of King Salman and the crown prince.”

He also took to twitter to say that the bid was more than a bid, it was a dream for a nation.

If Riyadh were to win the bid, Prince Abdul Aziz said that the tournament would be organized in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 campaign. He continued to explain that Riyadh would bring a vibrant and diverse event to the games, as well as a unique atmosphere. It plans to use pre-existing sporting venues, alongside custom-built facilities.

Of particular note was to increase women’s involvement in sporting activities by 40 per cent. Which is in line with Saudi Arabia’s curren aims to help promote and support female athletes in becoming medal winners all over the world. The bid file submitted by Prince Abdul Aziz to the OCA included world-class venues and facilities connected to the latest environmentally friendly transportation systems.
