Not-so-great news for jet skiiers and great news for beach goers–the Palm Jumeirah has banned jet skis.
The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) announced Monday that jet skiing in Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Harbour areas has been barred, effective immediately.
The DMCA sent out a statement on August 2 concerning the new rule that stated, “Jet skis shall not enter the area and violators will be strictly penalised,” said the circular. “Owners, agents, charters, marinas, yacht clubs, and recreational sailing organisations shall ensure that the contents of this circular are made known to the masters or persons in charge of their vessels.”
Khaleej Times reported that the DMCA came to this decision after people living in those areas complained about high-speed races and recreational water sports on the family beach that may be dangerous to people there.
Any person violating the law and caught riding their jet skis in the prohibited areas will face a fine of AED 500, and a third offense will lead to fines of AED 1,500 as well as jet ski confiscation for a month.

The Green Planet
Dubai is perhaps the last place on Earth you would expect to find a tropical rainforest. Step in from the dry heat outside, then breathe in some of that refreshing tropical air. Different bird species, including toucans and parrots, seem to have settled in well, and there are lizards, tree frogs, and even stingrays to admire, with a sloth that roams freely (and slowly). Plus, visitors are welcome to channel their inner Bear Grylls, facing up to snakes, spiders, and ant colonies. Entry is AED 95 for adults and AED 70 for children aged two-12.
