A UAE influencer whose name has not been released is set to be deported, according to UAE authorities.
The social media celebrity was pretending to be an Emirati while inhaling a highly illegal substance while on Instagram Live publically, a hugely irresponsible and dangerous act.
Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, has said that the star was not expecting authorities to notice, believing that their fame insulated them from consequences.
Al Mansour continued that the act was done without “the slightest sense of responsibility or respect for the laws”, he added.
The Authorities from the General Department of Narcotics control arrested the man on charges of destructive behaviour. Al Mansouri added that society must be protected from such influencers who misuse UAE national dress and encourage others to violate laws as well.
The banned substances are often first tried by young people because of exposure to others using them on social media or through pictures or video, making the act especially harmful and destructive, as these acts can destroy lives, according to Al Mansouri.
Use social media responsibly, and strictly adhere to UAE laws, everyone!
