The streaming giant is investing in 5 new shows

Netflix just livestreamed its 2020 Anime Festival in Japan, and has said that 2021 will be a big year for the category.

The streaming platform said that Anime has become incredibly popular, and it will be investing in more films and series next year.

The company said that more than 100 million accounts now regularly consume anime content, and the genre has appeared in the Top 10 list in more than 100 countries.

“In just four short years since launching our creative team in Tokyo, Netflix has expanded the reach and overall audience of anime – a category conventionally seen as niche,” said Taiki Sakurai, the anime chief producer at Netflix.

“Given the success of shows such as Seven Deadly Sins and Baki, we are excited now more than ever to challenge ourselves to expand our aspirational anime programming for fans around the world.”

Netflix has said to capitalize on the popularity, it is creating five new original series next year. That includes Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure, Thermae Romae Novae, High-Rise Invasion, Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, and The Way of the Househusband.
