Cyberpunk 2077 has suffered its third delay, with a new release date that leaves gamers waiting even longer for CD Projekt Red’s mammoth sci-fi title.
The game was supposed to ship in November 2020, alongside next-generation consoles the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. However, today CD Projekt Red delivered some bad news.
“We have something important to share with you,” said the official Cyberpunk twitter account.
“Today we decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days. The new release date is December 10th. Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so, first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies.”
The hype around the game which stars Keanu Reeves as a lead rope began back in 2019, with a trailer that included the Matrix star. Back then, the game was slated to release in April. After, it was moved to September, and then November (and now December).
As you can expect, gamers on twitter took the news well with the response, “You gotta be f*cking kidding” racking up tens of thousands of likes and re-tweets.
According to the developers, the main difficulty is prepping nine different versions of the game across current generation consoles, next generation platforms and PC, all while working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We’re aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make a difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do.”
The new release date will be December 10, 2020. But at this point, who really knows. Until then, gamers will have to do with the latest Keanu-fronted trailer.
