It is being widely reported that TikTok has chosen Oracle over Microsoft to take over its US operations.
TikTok’s owner ByteDance was forced to sell its US operations after Donald Trump and the US Government threatened to ban the social media platform, over concerns of privacy and its Chinese ownership.
Apparently, Oracle will be announced as TikTok’s ‘trusted tech partner’ imminently.
If true, this would effectively save the social media platform in the United States, meaning the service would not be banned. Previously Donald Trump said that TikTok had until September 20 to make a deal, or face a ban.
On Sunday, Microsoft said that its bid for TikTok had been rejected.
“We are confident our proposal would have been good for TikTok’s users, while protecting national security interests,” the statement read, stating that Microsoft would make “significant changes” around security, privacy, online safety, and disinformation.
“We look forward to seeing how the service evolves in these important areas,” the statement ended.
Currently, TikTok remains banned in India, which cited issues to “national security and defense”.
