Oman will soon have its very own international landmark, not unlike the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
According to the Muscat Daily, the last annual report from the government’s Implementation Support and Follow-up Unit references an initiative that would create an iconic building that would act as a landmark for the country.
It said that the landmark would be, “Similar to landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, the proposed landmark would also function as a destination product to attract tourism into the country.”
This was further backed up by a Tweet on September 7 from the Minister of Heritage and Tourism, Salim bin Mohammed bin Said al Mahrouqi, who replied to calls for the country to build a landmark with the following: “There is no dispute about that and within the proposals that will be studied comprehensively.”
When Oman does get around to building it, it will join cities such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which boast the likes of the Burj Al Arab, the Burj Khalifa, the Yas Viceroy Hotel and Masdar City.
