Holes in the Earth are appearing out of nowhere

Massive holes are appearing across Siberia, and the phenomenon is both unexplained and concerning for scientists.

A new funnel/sinkhole/doorway to hell appeared in July this year, publicized by a Russian TV station. And it’s not the first either, at least 17 have been spotted over recent years.

The main theory as to why these huge holes appear overnight seems to have something to do with the build-up of methane gas in pockets of heating permafrost, under the surface of the Earth.

The most recent ‘crater’ is one of the most impressive large holes to suddently appear. Scientist Dr Evgeny Chuvilin – lead researcher at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology said, “What we saw today is striking in its size and grandeur”.

“These are the colossal forces of nature that create such objects.”

The sinkhole was spotted by chance by the crew of a passing television helicopter.

The best guess as to why these strange phenomena occur has to do with the releasing of gasses. It is thought that human activities – such as drilling for gas reserves – could be a factor in these eruptions.

2020, what a time to be alive.
