New study says cat music will calm pets during visit to the vet

Planning on taking your cat to the vet anytime soon? Then perhaps you should invest in some cat-friendly music.

According to a new US study, playing music that has been specifically created for cats can calm a stressful pussy cat.

The study was carried out at Louisiana State University, and involved 20 pet cats. Scientists played each pussy 20-minutes of cat-specific music (like the example below) or no music at all, and then sent each to have a physical examination.

According to researchers who were measuring the cat’s stress levels via behavior and body posture cats were less stressed during pet visits when they were played the music.

The team also tested various types of classical music, but found it didn’t have the same effect as the cat-specific music.

The positive effect of music has been tested on both humans and animals. In both, listening has been proven to increase motor and cognitive function in stroke patients, and help reduce anxiety before medical examinations.

Researchers say the new findings can help decrease a cat’s stress levels.
