New season, new Kovacs in the form of Anthony Mackie

We should have expected that a show with body-swapping built into its core would go ahead and swap out its main star for season 2.

In the new season, which lands on Netflix tomorrow, antihero Kovacs (last played by Joel Kinnaman) finds himself on a new planet and in a new body.

This time around, Anthony Mackie takes on the role. Fortunately, series favourite Poe (the artificially intelligent being played by Chris Connor) is back to help Mackie’s character find ex-Love interest

According to showrunner Alison Schapker, the budding romance between Kovacs and his AI will only get stronger:

“In Season 2, the stakes between them get even higher because Kovacs is depending on Poe to help him find Quell, but Poe is suffering from a glitch in his system that makes him more unreliable than before,”

“So, there’s greater tension between Kovacs and Poe, but we’re also going to see their relationship continue to grow as they spend time together on Harlan’s World.”
