It’s a take on the current state of affairs in the UK parliament

Banksy isn’t known for holding his punches. His ‘Devolved Chimps’ painting which depicts chimpanzees in parliament instead of regular MPs is set to go up for auction just a few days before Brexit.

In a statement, Alex Branczik, Sotheby’s European Head of Contemporary Art called the artist a “modern-day Voltaire, confronting the burning issues of the day with caustic wit and biting satire, but with a lightness of touch and a visual irony that distils society’s most complicated political situations into just one, deceptively simple image that is readily shareable in our social media age.”

In March this year, Banksy allowed the painting to be displayed in Bristol and posts a comment on his Instagram page that read:

“Devolved Parliament. I made this ten years ago. Bristol museum have just put it back on display to mark Brexit day. Laugh now, but one day no-one will be in charge.”

The painting is estimated to fetch around US $2 million.
