Banksy isn’t done causing trouble in Venice yet

Banksy made a bold statement in Venice recently setting up his own illegal art installation during the Venice Art Biennale
He didn’t stop there as a mural created earlier this month has now been revealed to be the famous graffiti of Banksy
It depicts a migrant child, a message and theme very common with Bansky works

A piece of street art in Venice’s Dorsoduro district, an area known for renowned art collections, has been confirmed as a work by Banksy.

Just last week, we covered how Banksy set up his own display in Venice during the Venice Art Biennale. It was a big statement by the artist, who clearly had some resentment towards never being asked to properly attend the prestigious art event. That installation had a deep connection to refugee crisis, and Banksy doesn’t seem finished exploring that issue.

The mural in Dorsoduro shows a migrant child wearing a lifejacket while holding a cracking neon pink flare. Considering his installation last week ‘Venice in Oil’ depicted a ship, and had a deep connection to refugees, it’s a solid guess to imagine the girl depicted here is meant to be connected to Banksy’s ‘Venice in Oil’, perhaps a passenger of the ship?

Back in 2015, Banksy took to the Calais refugee camp to create a portrait of Steve Jobs, a portrait that had Jobs with a black garbage bag over one shoulder and an Apple computer in his hand. The mural has the name ‘The Son of a Migrant from Syria’

In addition to the Venice mural, Banksy expressed in a statement: “We’re often led to believe migration is a drain on the country’s resources but Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world’s most profitable company, it pays over $7 billion USD a year in taxes – and it only exists because they allowed in a young man from Homs.”

Posted on his Instagram just yesterday, the image of the refugee girl has gained the street artist over one million likes.
