Banksy is one of the coolest pop culture figures no one knows anything about – which just makes him cooler. He’s a British street artist known for his distinctive style and anti-establishment and often politically charged messages. Now there’s going to be an 80-piece exhibition in Sydney, Australia this September.
The beloved, albeit mysterious artist is admired by many for his unorthodox approach not only to art, but the presentation of it.
Remember back in 2018 when some poor woman won a copy of ‘Girl with a Balloon’ only to have it shredded before her eyes? Banksy did that. He hid a shredder in the frame of his artwork and when the auction was done, bam. Shredded.
On other occasions, he’s just decided to turn up to the Venice Art Biennale completely uninvited. The Biennale is one of the most prestigious and high-brow art events in the world. Banksy decided to do a pop up right outside it, of course with a politically charged display.
He then decided to vandalise Venice a bit more.
Not only is he known for his style then, he’s clearly known too for his attitude. Fitting then that his art show in Sydney, Australia later on is apparently ‘unauthorised’. Classic Banksy.
‘The Art of Banksy’ will be the largest touring collection of the artist’s work, with 80 original works on show, dating from 1997 to 2008.
The website for the show explains that 1997-2008 was “the period which resulted in Banksy’s most recognisable and well-known works.”
The exhibition includes works like ‘Girl With Red Balloon’ (who knows if it’ll be shredded), ‘Flower Thrower’ and ‘Rude Copper’.his special exhibition is not authorised by Banksy himself but is curated by Steve Lazarides, the artist’s former manager and photographer. It is said too that the show will offer guests a behind-the-scenes look into the creative process of Banksy’s works.
