The Cricket World Cup this year in England and Wales is set to be an exciting one, here are a handful of the men that will make this true.
Chris Gayle
Considered one of the greatest batsmen ever in Twenty20 cricket, Gayle has on his portfolio a long list of records and achievements across all formats of the sport. He recently made history recently, crushing the Pakistan team by seven wickets. The West Indies won in just 13.4 overs, with Gayle as the top-scorer. Gayle reached his half-century with three sixes and six fours. This performance has earned him a record for the most sixes hit in World Cup history.
The 39-year-old announced his plan to retire from one-day internationals after the World Cup. Gayle however is not a top fielder although he more than makes up for it with his freewheeling and clearly impressive batting.
Virat Kohli
How could the ‘best batsman in the world’ not make this list? Kohli’s stats speak for themselves, 10,843 runs in 227 matches at an average of near 60, with a strike rate in excess of 90 and 41 hundreds.
Not only is his skill in the pitch a reason to watch, but the 30-year-old Indian player will have a lot of eyes on him soon, with news of him hurting his thumb ahead of a match with South Africa, fans, particularly those from India are worried if the star player’s injury will drastically impact the result of the game. You’ll need to watch Kohli’s play to be sure his injury hasn’t hindered him too much.
David Warner
We urge you not too boo and hiss too much when you hear this name, as fans did as he played against Afghanistan recently. The Australian left-handed batsman was once known to be a top cricketer in the team. Now he is perhaps more known for his role in the ball tampering scandal that really put a blemish on Australian cricketing pride. The man has now returned from his ban to aid in an impressive opening against Afghanistan.
Fakhar Zaman
Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman is a young up and comer in the sport. Zaman became only the sixth batsman to record an ODI double century when he smashed 210 not out against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo last year.
Jos Buttler
England’s own Jos Buttler is currently the vice-captain of the England national team and someone to really count on. An average of more than 40 with a strike-rate approaching 120 really says it all.
