Downtown Dubai is getting its very own ‘walk of fame’ – a series of stars/symbols that will honour more than 10,000 international celebrities of stage and screen.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame is already one of the biggest attractions in Los Angeles. It’s no wonder then that Emaar – the developer behind much of Dubai’s Downtown District – wants a cut of the action.
The project will kick off with a global social campaign asking for nominations. There will be 400 celebrities and influencers chosen, and each will receive their respective star.
Each year more stars will be added to the ‘Dubai Stars’ walk of fame until there are more than 10,000. That means the Dubai walk of fame will have four times the number of stars than its Hollywood counterpart.
According to Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, this is just another one of the many attractions that tourists will flock to in the Downtown area. “With Dubai Stars, we are further highlighting our commitment to making Dubai the best city in the world, and to promoting arts, culture and sports by saluting the stars, whose contributions continue to inspire the world,” said Matrooshi.
Emaar is betting the Dubai Walk of Fame will become one of the most visited tourist attractions in Dubai, mainly down to the diversity of the celebrities chosen. The Hollywood Walk of Fame mainly champions western celebrities, while the Dubai one will be more inclusive of Bollywood, Asian cinema, architects, sports stars, writers and online celebrities such as influencers.
The first phase of the Dubai Stars is currently under construction along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai. It’s thought that once all 10,000 stars have been installed, it will circle the likes of the Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall – which is the world’s largest mall by total area. According to Emaar, 98% of tourists who visit Dubai head to Downtown Dubai.
The social media campaign is due to kick off later this month, via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
