There is quite literally no other city in the world like New York with its sky-high skyscrapers, and the bustling city has always been at the forefront of technological advancement, fashion and all things cool. It’s about to get even cooler.
Soon, New York City will be home to the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, which will open in the city’s new development Hudson Yards. The $25 billion mega development opened its doors recently and is complete with luxury high-rises, high-end offices and a hive-like installation.
So how tall are we talking?
The Edge observation deck at 30 Hudson Yards will stand 1,100 feet above street level on the west side of Manhattan, and will be fifth highest in the world overall but it will be tallest in the Western hemisphere.
It will narrowly overthrow the observation deck at the Empire State Building at 1,050 feet above street level as the tallest outdoor development, along with Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center, at 850 feet above street level.
According to CNN, “After hopping on an elevator for 60 seconds, visitors will arrive at the 7,500-square-foot outdoor viewing area, which extends 65 feet from the 100th floor of the new 30 Hudson Yards tower and includes a glass floor, offering visitors a bird’s-eye view of the city.”
The website adds that visitors will be able to dine on the 101th floor at the 10,000-square-foot bar, restaurant, and event space programmed by hospitality group rhubarb, its first venture outside of London.
