Fighting the coronavirus one robot at a time

LG is using tech to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The company is using its experience in building robot vacuumes, as well as artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles, to build a robot that can kill germs and viruses using ultraviolet light.

The robot uses autonomous tech to navigate around furniture in high-traffic areas (such as restaurants and hotels) and sanitize touchable surfaces in just 15-30 minutes.

It works via a companion app, that lets its human owners monitor the robot’s progress. The robot is also clever enough to know if a human is present, and will minimize exposure to UV rays.

The robot is due to be unveiled next month at CES in Las Vegas. It’s expected to hit shelves later next year.
