New Spotlight feature will pay users for their most entertaining posts

In an effort to contend with TikTok, Snapchat is currently releasing its very own ‘Spotlight’ function, which will put one user in the spotlight for creating the day’s most amusing Snap.

The best bit? It will rewarding said-Snappers with cold hard cash.

According to Snap Inc. the posts will be curated and highlighted to each user via a ‘proprietary’ formula (much like TikTok’s algorithm). To advertise the launch of the new feature, Snap will be providing US$1 million per day to be spread about to the most entertaining creators.

More importantly, influencers won’t just be eligible – every user can be featured if their content is good enough.

Snapchat said that it has also produced the new feature with safety in mind, ensuring that posts will be regulated, public remarks are modified, and all accounts will be set to ‘personal’ by default.

Snapchat’s Spotlight is currently offered throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and also France.

So no love for the Middle East just yet, but the company has said it will be releasing the new feature to other countries very soon.
