Sony has unveiled the Alpha 7C, the smallest full-frame camera ever made.
We are quickly moving into a world where ‘professional’ camera equipment is no bigger than a point-and-shoot. Case-in-point, the Alpha 7C is smaller than many of Sony’s APS-C and mirrorless camera models, and slightly bigger than its point-and-shoots.
It may be little, but the Alpha 7C is also rather mighty. It packs a 24.2-megapixel 25mm full-frame Exmore R CMOS sensor, a BIONZ X image processing engine, and ISO up to 51,200.
You also get Sony’s snappy autofocus with real-time tracking, 10 frames per second burst mode and proper 4K video shooting. There’s a backward-facing tilting 3-inch touchscreen, an electronic viewfinder along with Wi-Fi and USB-C charging.
It ain’t cheap. The Sony Alpha 7C costs US$1,800 for the body only, but for those who continue to lug heavy camera systems around town the fact that this is so light may well be priceless.
