New biopic miniseries will revolve around the original rap clan

The Wu-Tang Clan is getting its very own biopic series, kicking off on Hulu in September.

Wu Tang: An American Saga will follow the origins of the rap group over ten episodes. The biopic covers the groups formation during the drug-trafficking heyday of 90s era New York, along with the individuals who would ultimately become the group’s main members.

The series kicks off with Bobby Diggs – aka The RZA – who attempted to get a dozen young men pulled between the worlds of music and crime into the biggest rap group in the United States.

Ashton Sanders – who was celebrated after his role in the Oscar-winning Moonlight – plays Diggs, as he becomes the group’s leader.

The miniseries was created by Diggs with the help of Alex Tse (Superfly) for the screenplay, along with Chris Robinson as director. The group’s other members – Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, GZA and even the company managing Ol’ Dirty Bastard (who died in 2004) are all consulting producers.

With more than 40-million albums sold around the world and five gold and platinum records, the Wu-Tang Clan are recognized as one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history. So it’s about time they got their first big-screen outing.
