And it comes with its very own sofa

Mini has unveiled a new self-driving van concept whimsically called: Vision Urbanaut.

Mini says that the vehicle is a ‘digital vision vehicle’ which probably means it will never see the light of day. However, it does go to show exactly where Mini’s design boffs think the future of its motors are going.

The Urbanaut features a smooth, pod-like silhouette that supposedly “offers more interior space and versatility than ever before, but still on a minimal footprint”.

The car comes with a large sliding door on the passenger side, that opens up to an interior that has four seats, a table and a sofa.

At the front of the vehicle is a ‘Daybed’ where users can lay around, while also adjust the dashboard. Seats can also swivel out and can be adjusted, to form a corner sofa. Finally, two seats at the back can be transformed into a lounge chair.

When parked, the vehicle’s windscreen can be opened up to allow for a breeze.

All of this sounds pretty farfetched, but the general theme is passenger comfort. Evidently Mini believes that in the age of self driving cars, what is under the hood won’t be nearly as important as the comfort of the cabin.
