Berluti has introduced its latest unique object – which nobody saw coming; it’s an iconic 1960s beach buggy inspired by the brand’s signature printed canvas.
Imagined by Kris Van Assche, the beach buggy pays homage to the carefree beach-going lifestyle of 1960s Souther California.
The original beach buggy is now an icon of the motoring world. Created in 1964 by Bruce F. Meyers, the original ‘Meyers Manx’ was created by strapping a VW Beetle engine to a lightweight, all-terrain bodyshell.
It could be personalized to no end, and was quickly embraced by the movie industry including Elvis Presley’s Live and Little, Love a Little and The Thomas Crown Affair.
The Berlutti model stays true to the original – you get the same air-cooled flat four engine capable of 90-horsepower, and that light protective shell. Unlike the original, the dashboard, steering wheel, gear lever and both seats are covered with monogrammed leather.
There is also a canvass top, and a removable luggage carrier encased in black leather. There’s also a palladium-finished brass Berluti logo on the hood.
