According to Elon Musk, the new Tesla Roadster will do zero-100 in 1.9 seconds

Tesla’s first ever production car, the Roadster, returns with a bang.

Elon Musk called it “a hardcore smackdown” to gasoline cars; at the official unveiling of Tesla’s first ever hyper-car. ‘Super’ is a bit of an understatement in this regards, as Tesla’smuch-anticipated motor is set to break all records and speed past the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport tp become the fastest car in the world.

Who would have thought that electric cars would make it this far?

With speeds of 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 1.9 seconds, the new Tesla Roadster will be the first ever car to break the 2-second barrier. It goes 0–113 km/h in 2.0 seconds and 0–161 km/h in 4.2 seconds. According to Tesla, the roadster will need no more than 8.9 seconds to get as far as 4km with a top speed above 400 km/h

If the production Roadster achieves these performance numbers, it will outperform the supercars of 2017 and would set new production car records, none of which had yet done better than 0–100 km/h in 2.0 seconds or 9.0 seconds in the 0.4 km.

Moving on, the Roadster will have three electric motors, one in front and two at the rear, allowing for all-wheel drive, and torque vectoring for better cornering. Tesla said that it will have a 200 kWh (720 MJ) battery, twice the capacity of the Tesla Model S P100D, giving it a 1000 km range on one charge at freeway speeds. They said the torque at wheels will be 10,000 N·m (7,376 lb·ft).

The design is a clear strike against the sports car industry. There are possible cues from all the major players, including a ‘McLaren P1’ cockpit, an ‘Acura NSX’ exterior, ‘Bugatti Chiron’ headlights, a Targa-like roof, and a rear reminiscent of an ‘Aston Martin DB10’.

However, the wait is going to be quite a long one. Musk said production is not scheduled to start until 2020.
