Large beds, a private dining room, virtual windows and so much more…

Not many people could have predicted this collaboration.

The Grand Tour co-host, Jeremy Clarkson, along with the design boffs at Mercedes working on an Emirates airplane. We’ll let that sink in for a minute.

With the inauguration of the Dubai Airshow, the largest operator of the Boeing 777 aircrafts in the world, unveiled its latest plane; a multi-million dollar upgrade that includes newly-designed seats and an upgraded in-flight entertainment systems.

Dubai’s flagship airline revealed images of its new economy and business class cabins, highlighting a new colour code and larger, leather seats.

The new look economy class cabin

The new economy class cabin has a soft grey and blue colour palette. All cabins are equipped with an overhauled in-flight entertainment system.

However, the most eye-catching upgrades were the ones made to the first-class cabin.

Large rooms, plush designs and bright, airy cabins that are completely blocked off from the rest of the plane. With floor to ceiling sliding doors and design features inspired by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Emirates’ new suites offer up to 40 square feet of personal space.

The leather seats have a diamond stitch pattern in neutral cream colours and are fully declinable into a flat sleeping position.

The large space is occupied by large beds, dining spaces and virtual windows- high-definition cameras outside the planes that enable passengers sitting in the middle of the first class cabin to have a window-like experience-. To further improve on the first-class cabin passengers, Emirates have added hi-tech control panels and mood lighting.

“This is the first time we have seen anything like this in the civil aviation world,” Tim Clark, carrier president said.

“This is the first time an Emirates product has been so influenced by another luxury brand, but it is a natural fit as both Emirates and Mercedes-Benz have the same unwavering commitment to fine detail, uncompromising quality, and a drive to push the boundaries,” Clark added.

Emirates and Mercedes-Benz have extended their partnership to provide a fleet of the S-Class cars as part of its complimentary chauffeur-drive service.

The latest Emirates 777 aircraft with these new features will enter commercial service on 1 December, making its debut on flights to Geneva and Brussels.
