The Tokyo Motor Show came in quite unusual to Lexus fans who were expecting to see the new LC F but were pleasantly surprised with a special edition of the RC F and GS F.
The LS+ is a concept version of production car Lexus LS that was showcased as a concept two years ago on the same stage.
Lexus went one step further with autonomous driving and actually had the car drive itself onto the stage.
Unlike Apple products, the LS+ does not imply a larger car but rather LS plus more.
To carry on Lexus’ ambitious goal of “eventually eliminating traffic causalities”, The LS+ comes with something called “Urban Teammate”, a new technology for automated driving on city roads. For highways, they have a “Highway Teammate”, of course.
The new technology offers a range of driver assistance, including lane assist, automatic lane keeping and overtaking, along with the ability to maintain the safest distance between all the vehicles around it once on a highway. LS+ will also be able to ‘talk’ to other cars with same technology and offer a pre-warning to the driver of any potential dangers ahead.
LS+ also displays the latest three-dimensional artificial intelligence software, which monitors and processes data and learns the road conditions ahead.
Over-the-air updates will keep the system up-to-date, allowing for updated and/or new functions to be added to the system.
