From The Last of Us to Metal Gear Solid; it will be a big year for video game movies

Sony has not one, not two, but ten current video game movies and TV shows in the works.

That comes from Sony Pictures Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tony Vinciquerra, who revealed that there are three movies currently in production and seven television shows, all based on PlayStation exclusives.

“We have a program within the company called ‘One Sony,’ said Vinciquerra. “You’ll be seeing a lot more integration of Sony companies together.”

Currently, we know that HBO Max as a The Last of Us series in development, a total reboot of the Resident Evil film series, a new Assassin’s Creed adaptation and a Metal Gear Solid series starring Oscar Isaac.

Recently, Tom Holland’s first set picture for Uncharted was revealed. The Spider-Man actor is playing Nathan Drake in the film adaptation.

The rest of the series/shows are a bit unknown, however other PS4 exclusives not mentioned (but have become hugely popular) include God of War, InFamous, Ratchet and Clank, Detroit: Become Human, The Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn and more.

Speaking of HBO’s decision to release its films in both cinemas and television channels at the same time, Vinciquerra said that more flexibility was key – however he still believes cinemas play a key part in the future of film.
