Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 has a bendy laptop screen

Lenovo has added a bendy new model to is business-savvy ThinkPad lineup.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 folds in half, making it the world’s first laptop with a foldable screen.

The laptop is set around a pin-sharp 13.3-inch OLED display. Naturally, the keyboard has been removed and it relies solely on Microsoft’s on-screen keyboard, however there’s nothing to stop you from attaching a secondary keyboard via USB.

Under the hood lies Intel’s Core i5 processor, a custom bendable motherboard that makes use of all that space, as well as an innovative cooling system that distributes heat evenly.

You also get a narrow black bezel, a leather folio-type case and a display stand.

The ThinkPad X1 is part of a new breed of hybrid devices that use foldable screens to provide users with additional features.

Samsung’s recent Fold X smartphone for example can unfurl when users want to make the most of more screen real estate, if you wanted to play games or watch movies for example. This ThinkPad aims to combine the productivity of a large screen and Windows 10, alongside portability – as there’s no real need to carry an external keyboard and the screen bends in half.

The laptop is available right now for US$2,500. It is a lot to pay for a portable laptop to be sure, but foldable tech is still very much in its infancy. Expect newer (and cheaper) models in the near future.
