Freshly reopened after the most extensive renovation in its 117-year history, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is not shy about wearing its storied history on its sleeve.
Located in London’s affluent Knightsbridge district, each of the hotel’s 181 rooms (including 40 suites and two generous penthouses) have undergone extensive art deco touch-ups overseen by internationally-renowned designer Joyce Wang.
With stunning views of London’s dramatic skyline and the adjacently-located Hyde Park, it’s no wonder that the likes of Sir Winston Churchill was known to frequent the hotel, often spending days in bed on account of how much he enjoyed it there.
There’s a sense of prestige and tradition that one expects when staying within the walls of a century-old hotel and the Mandarin Oriental nails it. Whether it’s the custom furniture and finishings in each room, or the fact that staff instinctively know you by name and not room number from check-in, it’s clear that no expense has been spared to ensure guests are made to feel welcome.
While the hotel’s location puts you right in the bustle of the London’s couture shopping and fine dining, it would be a grave disservice to not take full advantage of the dining options already on-hand.
The two Michelin-star Dinner By Heston has also undergone a light refurbishment and continues to offer one of the most dazzling culinary experiences in the city. While the Mandarin Bar serves as the perfect kick-off spot for a night on the town, complete with a selection of specially-crafted cocktails that, as few others can claim, are named for the famous guests and events peppered throughout the hotel’s illustrious history.
