According to lots and lots of rumours, Star Wars-star Oscar Isaac will soon make his Marvel debut playing superhero Moon Knight in an upcoming Disney+ series.
The actor is set to play the hero in a new Marvel Cinematic Universe show produced by Jeremy Slater, one of the guys behind Umbrella Academy for Netflix. Marvel and Disney are currently looking for a director of the series, to produce the new show.
The Moon Knight series will sit alongside other MCU shows, including WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and What If…?
All of which begs the question: does Oscar Isaac suit the character?
Moon Knight has long been called Marvel’s answer to DC’s Batman. Moon Knight is the vigilante crime-fighting alter ego of an ex-boxer and CIA agent turner mercenary, Marc Spector.
Following the betrayal at the hands of his mercenary employer, Spector is left almost dead in the sands of Egypt. There, he is approached by an Egyptian moon god, who offers him a second chance at life in exchange for becoming a protector of earth.
Now back to the land of the living, Spector then uses the powers of Moon Knight and his vast wealth of mercenary money to take down baddies.
Can Oscar Isaac play a dark, brooding character who sticks to the shadows and is hell-bent on vengeance? You bet he can. Have you seen A Most Violent Year and Ex-Machina?
X-Men: Apocalypse aside, Isaac is well-known by both mainstream fans and proper thespians. He’s also got massive ‘nerd-cred’ thanks to his appearance in Star-Wars The Skywalker Saga.
Moon Knight is expected to hit cinemas in 2022, and join shows such as Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk (all of which are currently in development).
