After rumours floating around that Jonah Hill was in talks for a role in the new Batman movie, it has now been confirmed Hill has decided to pass on the film.
The news first came late in September, explaining that Hill, the two-time Oscar nominee, was in talks with Matt Reeves, the director, about playing the role of a titular villain in the anti-hero flick. Naturally our minds gravitated towards the role of Penguin.
Sadly, according to Variety, Hill has walked away from the negociating table and it’s back to the drawing board to look for cast members. At the time of writing, the sure-fire cast members are Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader himself and Zoe Kravitz recently announced to be playing Catwoman.
Former Vampire-turned-Batman, Pattinson is said to reprise the role of Batman for all three of Reeves’ envisioned films, however it is unknown how many films Kravitz may appear in.
For Hill, it was agreed he was either going to play the Riddler or Penguin, with this deal now off the table, the producing team must search for another fitting actor.
Pre-production on the film is expected to begin this summer. No official start date has been set, although insiders have said that filming will either begin late this year or early next.
“The Batman” is scheduled to hit theatres June 25, 2021.
