Yes, we all know what Netflix is, the ruler of internet television, and if you don’t know that then we recommend you climb out from under your rather large rock you’ve been living under. What we didn’t know, until we got someone to show us who wasn’t born in the 1970s, is that there are some sneaky tips to make your experience of the platform even more enjoyable.

Everyone loves personalised things: When signing up to Netflix (sorry to mention that word again), you can create up to five profiles on that single account, meaning recommendations become personalised from what you’ve already watched, you can continue where you left off and profiles allow you to restrict content that you don’t want your children to see. So you, your partner, your child and your cat and dog can all have an account.
3. On the move: With streaming, you only need an internet connection and you’re good to go. And in the case of Netflix, a new show’s new season episodes will usually be released all at once to ensure on demand is in full force. Whether it’s a laptop, home theatre system, Google Chromecast, Windows Tablet or an iPhone, Netflix will be with you wherever you are and whenever you want.
4. Don’t worry about rinsing data: The majority of people are constantly struggling to make their mobile data last. With Netflix you can use the playback settings feature to control the amount of data used when next binging away. On top of this, to give you some figures, the default setting will give you around three hours of streaming per gigabyte of data.
5. Safety first: Now let’s be honest: not many parents who want their 10-year-old son or daughter to stumble across Narcos when trying to entertain themselves. That’s why Netflix KIDS was invented, where children can have their own personalised profile, with their parents knowing there is only child-friendly or educational content available. The ‘parental control’ on Netflix also means that content watched can be set by parents, even with a pin code added. If you have many children of different ages then parental settings can be separately applied to each profile. Lastly, colour coding of the screen means you can see at a glance if what they’re watching is appropriate.
